Our Tech Team In 2014, the first Ancillae-Assumpta Academy Tech Team was initiated with five student members. To help support the growing number of devices in our school, the program was expanded in 2015. That group consisted of 25 students who met once a week to learn about networks, problem solving techniques, assist teachers and students in the school, and support our IT program. Last year our Tech Team grew to over 100 members. This initiated the beginning of our new Media Team. In addition to our 5 - 8 Tech Team Group, we also have a Jr. Tech Team with students in grades 1 - 4 who are responsible for assisting students and teachers in their classroom. Students in grades 5 - 8 meet once a week and break into one of five groups: Troubleshooting, Coding, AR/VR, 3D Printing and Artificial Intelligence.
Troubleshooting: Students in the Troubleshooting group work on developing ways to assist students and teachers with their devices. Students create "how to" videos, troubleshooting tips and maintain our Tech Team website. They also develop reviews for Apps we have included in our Self Service App.
Coding/Robotics: Coding group members take the lead in testing out software programs and websites to be used in classroom projects. For example, some students have recently been trying out the new Apple Swift program. Other students have helped test Sphero for upcoming STEM projects in the classroom. Robotics members get to explore building and programming in several robotics programs. Currently, they are practicing with the Lego WeDo and our newest addition, VEX robotics.
3D Printing: 3D printing members get to design and test 3D printing software for projects in the classroom. Older students are responsible for assisting teachers, changing filament and general hardware maintenance of the 3D printers.
AR/VR: Our AR/VR members will spend their time testing AR/VR experiences for use in the classroom. Some of the programs we will explore are Nearpod, Google Expeditions and Thinglink. They will also learn to create AR/VR experiences to share in the classroom and on our school website.
Artificial Intelligence (AI): Artificial Intelligence is the latest addition to our Tech Team rotation. Students in this group will explore tools and experiences that explore the use of machine learning and AI in our world. Students create Expert Systems and work to design a Chatbot to solve a school problem.
These groups rotate every semester and students can stay and become experts in one area or can rotate to another area of interest. These Tech Team members are student leaders in their classrooms and are invaluable assets to their teachers when initiating projects. In addition we have students who are available to answer teacher or student questions in the classroom, during 3rd period or Study. These "Techsperts" are also responsible to work with our IT Department to troubleshoot and maintain iPads and laptop carts. To learn more about our Techsperts, please visit their page.
